Ashura's Wrath Demo
Has anyone else played the demo for Ashura's Wrath on the 360 or the PS3? I played through the whole thing, which consisted of two fights that were mainly Quick Time Events. I’m a little worried that the whole game will be nothing but QTE’s and that doesn’t sound too promising. I’m not against the idea of them as they do enhance some of the moments during a game, but I think it would be very hard to play through an entire game built around this.
Hopefully the game has a little bit more to it and there might be some action or exploration sequences in between the fights that you can do while you’re going from fight to fight.
I like the idea of the Dragon Ball Z style game built like this. The fights were good, but I don’t know that I want to play a whole game like that.

I have not
But that seriously sounds like your review of another demo... Monster Hunter something or another? I can't remember but no it doesn't sound very promising.
Re: Ashura's Wrath Demo
That’s sort of what we collectively decided on the podcast this week is that Capcom just doesn’t really know how to create a demo that shows off their game in the best way. You don’t necessarily have to show off the best parts, but you need to give people a good idea of what you’re going to do in the game.
The best “demo’s” that they’ve done were actually the Dead Rising games on XBLA where it was essentially a separate game, but took place in the world of the full game and really showed you things like the item crafting, the combat system and some of the mission structure.
More companies need to do things like that. I’d pay $5 for a two to four hour “game”. I really liked the idea of Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype Edition as well. I fully supported that style of marketing for the Capcom games.

Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype Edition was the Capcom suit trying to make some money back on a "lost project" in their eyes. Meanwhile, the developers we trying to finish the game because they new fans wanted it. So instead, Inafune left Capcom. Great, we all win.

But they didn’t even release that to get some of their money back. They’ve essentially wasted all that money on a project that fans were interested in and were giving feedback to the developers. I’m pretty sure that prototype game could have made them a good part of that money back if they had released it for $5, but they shelved that as well.
Kinda like

Final Fantasy XIII-2. Makes me think that Square burned so much time and energy in FF XIII that they didn't recoup the costs of producing it. Also with all the content that was scrapped, I guess they figure might as well use it right? Try to recoup some losses by making a "new" game with the old unused parts. Sounds viable.
Re: Ashura's Wrath Demo
That's not always a bad thing. More a game that you really liked is something I would get behind every time. If you can make a new game for half the price that is still as good as the first I'm all for that. I'm pretty sure that's part of why Super Mario Galaxy 2 came out.
However, I don't think people really liked Final Fantasy XIII that much.
