Shelby and I Almost Died Empty Shelby and I Almost Died

While recording the podcast this week we experienced a 5.6 magnitude earthquake. I initially thought it was a low flying helicopter (because that happens by my house), but it continued and got larger. Shelby said, I feel the helicopter too....wait that can't be right. We actually stopped recording the show for it to pass (lasted about 30-45 seconds). then had to answer phone calls from both my mom and Heather's mom before restarting the show. We mentioned it several times for both shows.

So yes. The Nintendo Okie crew is willing to risk their lives to bring you the content you love.

I may joke about this, but it really was kinda scary. You don't really know what's happening at first. Like I said I thought it was a helicopter, because low flying helicopters rattle our windows all the time, and I live about a block away from a railroad line so loud noises and window shaking isn't anything new.

This however was. I'm used to the procedures and things to do for tornadoes and hurricanes (as I've been through both). Earthquakes are a completely different experience altogether. You don't really know how long it's going to last, or how intense the shaking is going to get. We've had minor earthquakes here all the time, but never ones you could really feel. This was the second one to happen in Oklahoma today. The first was at like 2:30 in the morning and I slept through that one. This one was very weird and it took a second to figure out exactly what was going on.

We have an earthquake simulator at our Zoo that simulates a 6.0, but it felt completely different to actually have the ground shake beneath your feet. It was really a cool experience, but also a bit scary. I think I'll stick with tornadoes. At least we can see those coming and prepare for them somewhat. Hopefully we won't have another of those for a long time.

You guys are ok. I'm sure you both have been through worse though. Did you see the cord beast behind Shelby's TV? I think it almost got him while he was recording his rewiring attempt.

That monster is definitely a bit scarier than an earthquake, but Shelby even survived that. I should probably do the same thing for my TV, but I just don't want to move any of the stuff on my TV stand.

During the earthquake all I could think about was the safety of my Samus statues. I really need to display them in a safer place. I am growing ever more concerned with the stability of this computer desk.

As for the wire beast, I have actually tamed worse ones before. I once agreed to rewire a coworkers home entertainment system. It took about five hours.
